On July 3, 2017 around 9:30 p.m., while the inhabitants were still enjoying this balmy summer evening, a hail of bullets fell on the district of La Reynerie in Toulouse.

The shooter had hidden under a burqa, he pretended to be walking as a couple and took his Kalashnikov out of a stroller.

This war scene left one dead: Djamel Tahri, 27, pursued and shot by the burqa killer.

A dozen other people were injured, including simple residents, collateral victims of what turned out to be a settling of scores against the backdrop of rivalries between drug traffickers.

Rivalry between bands

The investigation led to seven men who have appeared since Monday before the Haute-Garonne Assize Court.

Including Walid Derqaoui, suspected of being the shooter.

Investigations have shown that he held Djamel Tahri responsible for the assassination of one of his brothers.

Sitting Monday in the second row of the box, in the middle of his co-defendants, he remained impassive when reading the indictment.

"My client is waiting for answers", indicated at the exit of the hearing Virginie Chasson, the lawyer of a now paraplegic inhabitant, who was in the trajectory of a bullet.

He saw Djamel Tahri die and “the scene has haunted him ever since”.

The debates will last three weeks.

The verdict is expected on Friday, September 24.
