September 07, 2021 The United States has passed the threshold of 40 million cases of Covid-19, more than the population of California, the most populous state in the country.

The

New York Times

writes it

on the basis of its database.

In the last week, the average of new infections was over 161 thousand cases per day, that of deaths of 1,385 and that of hospitalizations of over 103 thousand.

In the US, 47% of Americans are not fully vaccinated, and this has made it easier for the Delta variant to spread.

On the occasion of the 4th of July, President Biden had declared that he hoped for "a summer of freedom". However, the Delta variant has become the dominant form of the virus. Governor Brad Little of Idaho pleaded for people to get the vaccine: “I wish everyone could see what I saw in the ICU last night.” In West Virginia, schools are closed and wards are full again. There are more and more calls for vaccinations

in the United States, and cases in the United States make up nearly a fifth of the known global total, over 221 million cases, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
