SVT Småland has previously reported that SSAM, Södra Småland's waste and environment, was looking for a needs-adapted emptying.

Now it is clear that smart bins will get rid of - and Växjö is the first in the country with a major investment.

The company Bintel AB won the procurement and together with SSAM they will develop a solution where the dustbin indicates that it is full.

- It is about innovation, says Per Gunnarsson who is responsible for IT and digitization at SSAM.

Sensor calls for the garbage truck

At the turn of the year, an area in Växjö will start with the new emptying technology, and if it works as intended, SSAM will place sensors inside thousands of rubbish bins in the municipality.

- There is a potential to reduce the number of empties.

But it is a challenge to get the whole thing together that automatically calls for the garbage trucks.

Isn't there a risk that the garbage truck needs to go back and forth a bit?

- No, it only applies to multi-family houses that are centrally located, at the moment, says Per Gunnarsson.
