"The tumor was identified during routine cardiovascular and laboratory tests and the material was sent to the laboratory for histological analysis," said Albert Einstein hospital where Pele has been hospitalized since August 31.





Pele himself announced the outcome of his colorectal operation. He announced this in a post on Facebook. "I will face this match with a smile on my face, lots of optimism and joy to live surrounded by the love of my family and friends". He then added: "My friends, thank you very much for the messages of love. Thank God for feeling very well. Last Saturday I underwent surgery for a suspected lesion in my right colon. The tumor was identified during my exams. I spoke to last week. "



Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known to all as Pele, but also as "O Rei", 80, had reassured everyone on social media, stating that his physical condition was good. "Guys, I have not passed out and I am in excellent health. I had routine exams that I had not been able to do before due to the pandemic. Just inform me that I will not be able to play next Sunday", joked Pele with his closest collaborators. 



In recent years Pele has undergone a series of hip surgeries, so much so that he recently had difficulty walking. In February 2020, the former goalkeeper Edinho, the son of Pele, had admitted that his father suffered from problems related to depression, walked badly and wanted to leave the house very little.
