The Qatari Emiri Diwan announced this evening, Monday, that Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani discussed the latest developments in the Afghan issue with the US Secretary of State and Defense, Anthony Blinken and Lloyd Austin.

The Qatar News Agency said that the two American ministers conveyed President Biden's thanks to Sheikh Tamim for Qatar's role in the evacuation operations in Afghanistan and its support for the peace process, in addition to Doha's hosting of the negotiations between the United States of America and the Taliban, noting the close partnership between the two countries and the diplomatic role of the State of Qatar, which contributes to preserving Security and peace regionally and internationally.

The United States had earlier expressed its gratitude for the cooperation of the State of Qatar on Afghanistan, and its indispensable support in the evacuation process.

A US State Department statement said that Qatar is the first and largest evacuation site from Afghanistan, one of the closest military allies in the region, and an active partner in the international coalition to defeat ISIS and combat violent extremism.

The statement added that Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken will discuss with Qatari officials the Afghan file and the strong bilateral relations between the two countries.

It is noteworthy that Qatar has renewed its "steadfast and supportive stance for the Afghan people, their right to live with dignity, and the realization of their aspirations for stability, development and prosperity."

Recently, the Qatari government announced the operation of an air bridge to transport humanitarian aid to the Afghan people.
