Two new residency systems in the UAE

The UAE government has launched two new residency systems, aiming to support highly skilled people and investors, green residency and free residency.

The Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, explained that restructuring the residency system is an advanced step towards enhancing efforts to attract qualified and skilled people, and facilitating business practice for all groups.

Within the first package of the “50 projects” that were revealed, the “Green Visa” was approved, which is a new residence system in the UAE that separates the residence permit from the work permit, so that the residence is self-residency on the employee and not on the company, targeting those with higher skills. Investors, entrepreneurs, early students and alumni.

It includes a set of new privileges different from the regular residence.

The Freelancers Visa, the first of its kind at the federal level, was approved for freelancers, in addition to the introduction of updates and other additional privileges to the residence system in the country.
