There are no longer any temporary workers at La Janais.

Struck by a shortage of spare parts, the PSA plant in Rennes has decided to put an end to the 150 temporary contracts which officiated in its ranks.

Owned by the Stellantis group, the site also announced the maintenance of partial unemployment for its employees and the transition to a single team.

The automaker is a victim of the global semiconductor shortage.

These electronic components are fitted to car dashboards.

Global demand having exploded, in particular due to the increase in sales of computer and multimedia equipment, factories are struggling to supply themselves and are forced to reduce the pace.

“This is a decision made in response to the reality of the situation today until our semiconductor suppliers resume restocking.

We are adjusting to limit the financial impact on our employees who have just completed two weeks of partial activity, ”underlined the management.

"We have no vision of resuming our supplies"

"We stop all our interim contracts and employee loans that we had as reinforcements," she said.

The PSA-La Janais factory, located south of Rennes, employs around 2,000 people.

According to the new organization, "the employees on permanent contracts will work in rotation", with the two teams which will work "in support of one another", underlines the Stellantis group.

“Unfortunately, we have no vision of resuming our supplies.

We have daily management in the crisis unit, ”indicated the management.

Employees "sacrificed" according to the CGT

The CGT, referring to a brutal announcement from management, anticipates a deterioration in working conditions.

"Even if the daily production volume is almost halved, the hourly rate will be more intense because management plans the production of 203 vehicles on a team, against 200 today," said the union in a statement.

The PSA La Janais plant usually produces 400 vehicles / day, Citroën C5 Aircross and Peugeot 5008.

The CGT regrets that the temporary workers are "sacrificed" and estimates that "Stellantis, which declared a net profit of six billion euros for the first six months of this year, has ample means to improve working conditions in the factories and pay full wages without resorting to state funding ”.
