Chinanews.com, Berlin, September 4 (Reporter Peng Dawei) The reporter learned from the Port of Hamburg, Germany's largest port, on the 3rd that in the first half of 2021, the port of Hamburg's maritime cargo throughput generally showed a positive development trend.

Among them, the shipping container throughput of the Port of Hamburg and its largest trading partner, China, achieved a growth of 14.2% (yoy, the same below), reaching 1.3 million TEUs.

"We have noticed that the total throughput of the Port of Hamburg has shown a positive upward trend and has entered the recovery phase. However, due to the impact of the epidemic, it has not been possible to fully compensate for the decline in throughput last year. Director of the Port of Hamburg Marketing Association (HHM) Axel Mattern explained: "The growing import and export economy, strong consumer demand and the extensive liner services we provide in the Port of Hamburg have contributed to the current steady growth.

"

It is reported that the processing speed of general cargo and bulk cargo in the Port of Hamburg has been significantly accelerated in the second quarter.

In the first six months, the total throughput of seaborne cargo reached 63.5 million tons, an increase of 3.8%.

Container throughput increased by 5.5% to 4.3 million TEU (20-foot standard container).

After a slow start in the first two months, container throughput increased rapidly in March and the second quarter.

The bulk cargo handling capacity was 19.3 million tons, while maintaining the positive momentum of continued development, achieving a growth of 3.3%.

The United States is still Hamburg's second largest market and has maintained a growing trend, reaching 303,000 TEUs (+5.3%).

Other countries with positive growth in container handling in the first six months include Sweden (+5.3%), South Korea (+2.4%), Poland (+14.4%), Brazil (+16.1%) and Denmark (+6.4%).

These gratifying developments in shipping container handling offset the negative growth in the first half of this year with other countries.

"Among the top 10 trading partners of Hamburg's shipping container transportation, all have shown a clear upward trend. Seven countries are already in the process of growth. Among the three countries that are still declining, we have also seen Stable and slight recovery momentum. Overall, we expect the seaborne cargo handling volume of Hamburg Global Port will continue to grow in the second half of the year.” Mattern emphasized.
