The Italian volleyball players won their third European championship title by creating a surprise in the final against Serbia, beaten 3 to 1 (24-26, 25-22, 25-19, 25-11) in front of their home crowd on Saturday in Belgrade.
The Serbs, double title holders, had just beaten Italy in the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games 3-0 a month ago in Tokyo, before taking the bronze medal.
The first two Italian titles dated from 2007 and 2009.
