"The US Secretary of Defense thanked the Italian Defense Secretary for helping his country to evacuate Afghanistan," the US Department of Defense press service reported.
During the meeting, the parties also talked about the alleged "threats from Russia", as well as "building up interaction with China, and strategies in the Middle East."
“We will continue to consult with Italy and our other allies on the way forward in Afghanistan,” Austin concluded.
