On behalf of the Government, the Swedish Geological Survey, SGU, produced a memorandum on the consequences of a possible closure of Cementa's limestone quarry on Gotland.

The authority delivered the memorandum on Friday, August 20 this year.

During a telephone meeting with representatives of the Government Offices, the authority was asked to wait to issue the memorandum.

-The Government Offices wanted us to wait for the publication of the PM in order to be able to take part in the content, says Göran Risberg, Deputy Director General at SGU.

Practical reasons behind decisions

Göran Risberg says that he did not perceive the government's wish for postponed publication as a way to darken.

According to Risberg, there were practical reasons behind the decision, and he points out that the content of the memorandum does not differ significantly from the conclusions in a previously noted report on Cementa.

A memorandum written by the consulting firm Romböll on behalf of the government.

-You can say that what we came to was basically the same thing, that is, that there will be problems if the cement supply from Cementa ceases.

The handling of the report is criticized

The handling of the PM is criticized by the opposition, which now wants to call the Minister of Trade and Industry Ibrahim Baylan to the Riksdag's Trade Committee.

-I think he should answer the question of why he and the ministry have obscured the report.

I think it is scandalous and therefore the cards must be on the table, says Lars Hjälmered, (M) chairman of the business committee.

Catharina Elmsäter-Svärd, CEO of the industry organization Byggföretagen, is critical of how the government handled the issue of a possible closure of the operations in Slite on Gotland.

-This issue is critical for Sweden. It would have been good for the public to know what effects a stop in Slite will have, exactly what SGU says in its report, she says.
