The France-visas website is used by citizens to process visa requests in France - accordingly, some personal data of users passes through it.

“On August 10, 2021, the France-visas platform module was subjected to a cyber attack, which was quickly neutralized.

However, the personal data recorded during the visa application (email addresses and identification data) could have been stolen, ”the French Foreign Office said in a statement.

At the same time, the Foreign Ministry assured that the stolen information does not contain banking data or information that falls under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union. The authorities notified the French National Commission for Informatics and Freedoms (CNIL) about the incident. The government has also filed a complaint and a judicial investigation is underway.
