Germany is going into a corona autumn with a quota of just a little more than 60 percent of people who have been completely vaccinated.

Despite all the vaccination appeals from politicians, scientists, artists, athletes and, most recently, influencers who address young vaccination skeptics emotionally, it is not recognizable that this number will increase significantly in the next few weeks.

Instead, the number of new infections every day is growing continuously.

And the number of Covid-19 patients in intensive care units has also exceeded 1000 for the first time since June.

Despite the pleasingly lower death rate, the development is also cause for concern because the social life of many unvaccinated young people is no longer predominantly outdoors and social contacts are again taking place indoors.

There, the risk of infection in view of the more contagious delta variant of the virus is many times higher.

Not only the virologist Christian Drosten warns that the current vaccination quota "is absolutely not enough" to go into autumn without worries.

Whether it makes sense in this critical situation to close the vaccination centers financed by the state, as has now begun by some federal states, on a large scale must be doubted. It is true that the influx there has decreased significantly in the past few weeks. Not least because tens of thousands of general practitioners' practices, which were greatly expanded in early summer, were accepted a million times over. But many younger people in particular no longer have any general practitioners. For them, vaccination centers would still be a tailor-made, trustworthy, uncomplicated point of contact with good medical advice before the spade, despite all the mobile vaccination teams in hot spots or in front of clubs and shopping centers.

Even with a view to the third booster vaccinations necessary in winter, the complete processing is not necessarily recommended. This has been recognized in Bavaria. The vaccination centers there will remain open until next year with reduced capacity. It is a wise decision.
