For the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Bankole Adeoye, Olusegun Obasanjo's first task will be to silence the guns in northern Ethiopia and bring the two sides together.

They must agree immediately on a permanent and inclusive ceasefire in Tigray.

Civil wars are the most painful, because it is brothers, sisters, cousins and friends who kill each other.

This is the first time that the organization has spoken of civil war in Ethiopia.

The AU representative for the Horn of Africa will also work on the establishment of a secure humanitarian corridor.

We recognize the efforts of the Ethiopian government but we ask for more, to ensure that Ethiopians do not starve.

Women and children must not pay the price for conflict for which they are not responsible.

Bankole Adeoye takes the opportunity to support Kenya's position at the UN forum, which called on Ethiopia to remove the TPLF from the list of terrorist organizations, in order to be able to conclude negotiations.
