China News Service, September 3, according to foreign media reports, the British government announced that it will provide 30 million pounds to assist neighboring countries in Afghanistan to accommodate Afghan refugees.

  According to Reuters, the British government said on the 3rd that it will immediately release 10 million pounds to the UN refugee agency and other humanitarian organizations to fund the establishment of refuges and sanitation facilities on the borders of neighboring countries in Afghanistan.

  The remaining funding will be provided to countries with large numbers of refugees to help them respond to their needs for key services and supplies.

  British Foreign Secretary Raab said that it is vital to provide assistance to Afghan refugees. He said: "We must help those fleeing Afghanistan and must not allow the Afghan crisis to destabilize the region."

  The UN refugee agency says that as many as 500,000 Afghans may have fled their homes by the end of this year.

A large number of Afghans believe that they will go to Pakistan, and Afghanistan’s neighboring country, Tajikistan, has pledged to take in 100,000 Afghan refugees.

  The UK has previously stated that it will accept about 20,000 Afghan refugees, and it is expected that 5,000 Afghans will arrive in the UK in the first year.
