- The idea came from a need to process the trauma that many Malmö residents experienced after we had a racist serial killer who ravaged for 7 years, says Manal Masri and refers to Peter Mangs.

She was one of the initiators who in 2019 developed the idea of an anti-racist monument.

The City of Malmö became involved in the issue and now the project is run by the cultural administration in the City of Malmö together with the initiators, through the association Anti-Racist Monument.

- I think one of the most important things about setting up the monument is that the city of Malmö takes a stand in that we will fight racism, says Manal Masri.

A monument in the beginning phase

Neither she nor Anna Wahlstedt from the cultural administration want to answer where the monument should stand or what it should represent.

- There will be several parties involved and decide;

the initiators, the people of Malmö and the cultural administration.

But of course also the artist who will perform the work, says Anna Wahlstedt.

The monument is planned to be ready in 2023, but already during the autumn, Malmö residents can participate in the process through, among other things, film screenings, talks, exchange of experiences and information initiatives.
