Four higher education institutions in the country were among the top 30 Arab higher education institutions, while seven Emirati universities were among the top 100 Arab universities, according to the latest classification of the Times Higher Education Arab Universities 2021, while academics confirmed that the results of Emirati higher education institutions in the rankings International, reflecting that the UAE has become a regional and global center for higher education, and a preferred educational destination for students and academic professors.


According to the classification, Khalifa University of Science and Technology topped the first place at the state level and sixth in the Arab world, the UAE University in the seventh place, the University of Sharjah in the 19th place, Al Ain University in the 27th place, the American University of Sharjah in the 31st place, and Zayed University in the list of universities located between the 61st to 70, and Ajman University in the list of places from 91 to 100.


The Times Ranking is based primarily on five criteria including education, research, citation, income that universities generate from industry, and visibility on the international stage. Thirteen carefully calibrated performance indicators are used to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons that students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments trust.


According to the official website of the Times Higher Education, the methodology on which the Arab ranking is based was based on the framework of the international ranking of universities itself, and amendments were made and new measures were included to reflect the characteristics and tasks of universities in the Middle East and North Africa, including regional measures on reputation and cooperation, in addition to measures related to Social Impact to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available.


Khalifa University confirmed that it has occupied advanced positions in international rankings as a result of producing world-class research that has practical applications to real world problems, as it focuses on meeting the needs of society and related economic sectors through research and development in areas of strategic importance to the state and the world.


It added that it includes 16 specialized research centers that seek to find solutions to challenges related to the region and the world in an organized manner, and it has two research institutes "Masdar and Petroleum" that supervise research in the field of sustainability and exploration of hydrocarbons. This research structure has helped produce a high-level intellectual property portfolio that has made it the largest contributor to innovations and patents. She pointed out that it is the first Emirati university to reach the top 200 global universities, becoming the fastest growing university in the world under 50 years of age.


The UAE University stated that it supports the government’s efforts to achieve the UAE Vision 2021 by encouraging and supporting excellence and creativity in the fields of scientific research and technology, and is keen to focus on the aspects and skills of the curriculum required for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and to become the first destination for cooperation for governmental and non-governmental agencies, organizations, industry and international agencies. It is noteworthy that the Times Higher Education ranking of Arab universities 2021 showed that Saudi universities occupy six positions in the list of the top ten universities, followed by the UAE with two universities, and Qatar, Lebanon and Egypt with one university each, where King Abdulaziz University came at the forefront of the ranking of Arab universities, followed by Qatar University in second place , King Abdullah University of Science and Technology third, Prince Muhammad bin Fahd University fourth, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals fifth, Khalifa University of Science sixth, Emirates University seventh, King Saud University eighth, American University of Beirut ninth, and Zewail University of Science in tenth place.

Khalifa University of Science and Technology achieved first place in the UAE and second in the Arab world in publishing research within the latest classification of the “Nature” Index 2021 for scientific research. .


Khalifa University submitted 11 research papers focusing on earth and environmental sciences, nine focused on physical sciences, and four in chemistry, while the UAE submitted 122 research papers represented by 10 universities.
