September 02, 2021After announcing it in February during an investor meeting, Twitter officially launches the "

$ uper follows

" feature - with the dollar $ - which allows special content creators to sell subscriptions to access it.

The novelty has been designed to remunerate content of famous people, musicians, actors, influencers, journalists, various experts, who will be able to offer links reserved to their subscribers at a rate between 3 and 10 dollars per month. For the platform there will be a revenue that can reach 20% of the creator's salary.

The experiment for now starts from the US and Canada, at the moment only for the Twitter app for Apple's iOS operating system. Later it will also be available for smartphones with software from Google, Android.

"With super follows, people can create an extra level of conversation and authentically interact with their most engaged followers, all while earning money,"

Twitter product manager Esther Crawford

points out in a

post

. The platform will take 3% of the subscriptions as a transaction fee. If the creator surpasses the $ 50,000 mark, Twitter's share will rise to 20%.

Twitter users and investors have long been asking the platform for a

subscription-based model

, considered successful as evidenced by the growing number of creators and influencers who use paid tools such as Patreon, Substack and OnlyFans to monetize their online popularity. Subscriptions would also allow Twitter to expand sources of revenue beyond online advertising, dominated by the Facebook-Google duopoly.
