It is a comprehensive study that includes grades 5 and 9 in primary school and grade 2 in high school.

A large part of the survey is reassuring.

They all feel safe and have peace of mind at school.

Nevertheless, the Swedish Schools Inspectorate sees a worrying trend that has built up over the past ten years.

According to the survey, both teachers and students feel that security has decreased.

Last year, for example, an average of 8 out of 10 students in year nine stated that they felt safe at school.

In previous measurements, there were more.

As many as 9 out of 10 students felt safe in 2010. Fewer also experience that teachers intervene if a student is harassed.

- We can see that it has gone in a negative direction during these ten years.

It is of course worrying, says the Swedish Schools Inspectorate's director general Helén Ängmo.

But the authority does not know exactly what this trend is due to.

However, they urge schools to find out.

- We can only see what it looks like in the schools we inspect.

There we can sometimes see that security has not been put in order.

There are chaos, loud classrooms, students testifying about violations and harassment.

- Over time, you can see a growing shortage of teachers.

That may be an explanation, but we do not know for sure.

We encourage schools to analyze the results.
