An employer cannot force its employees to take a vaccine.

But the free right of employment means that employers can choose not to employ an unvaccinated person.

But it could be discriminatory, for example in the case of disability or for religious reasons.

The Dalarna region has decided to investigate whether it is possible to introduce vaccine requirements for new hires.

But this will not be done in Region Västerbotten.

- We have not discussed the issue in that way.

It is risky if we start introducing different requirements for employment.

Then you start balancing on a slack line because what more can you add in that case, says Brita Winsa.

"Hard to force people"

As an employee, according to Swedish labor law, you do not need to inform the employer whether you have been vaccinated or not.

It is a health task you have the right to keep to yourself.

- My personal opinion is that it is terrible that people do not get vaccinated. It is incredibly sad and stupid and I understand those who work in the intensive care units who are upset that not everyone is vaccinated. But it is difficult to force people and in a free country it is really good, says Brita Winsa.
