China News Service, Brussels, September 1. The Chinese mission to the European Union responded to the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee’s Taiwan-related report on September 1. Such categories seriously violate the one-China principle and undermine the mutual trust and cooperation between China and the EU. China strongly opposes this.

A reporter asked that the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee passed the “EU-Taiwan Political Relations and Cooperation” report on that day, calling on the EU to enhance its “political relations” with Taiwan and promoting the rename of the “European Economic and Trade Office” in Taiwan to the “EU Office in Taiwan”. "Incorporating Taiwan into the EU's Indo-Pacific strategic considerations and supporting Taiwan authorities to participate fully in relevant international organizations as observers. What's China's response to this?

The spokesperson of the Chinese mission to the European Union stated that the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, regardless of China’s persuasion, issued the so-called "EU-Taiwan Political Relations and Cooperation" report, openly advocating the promotion of EU-Taiwan relations, and the relevant content goes far beyond the EU and its member states’ dealings with Taiwan. The development of unofficial economic and trade cooperation, cultural exchanges and other areas seriously violates the one-China principle and undermines mutual trust and cooperation between China and Europe. China strongly opposes this.

The spokesperson emphasized that there is only one China in the world. The People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. Taiwan is an inalienable part of China. This is the accepted norms of international relations and the universal consensus of the international community. It is also the establishment of diplomatic relations and the development of bilateral relations between China and Europe. In the various documents and statements issued by China and the EU, the EU reaffirmed the one-China principle, “The EU must speak of international rules, and the European Parliament, as one of the EU’s important institutions, should abide by its commitments. Persevere in practical actions and implement it."

The spokesperson urged the relevant committees and members of the European Parliament to recognize the high sensitivity of the Taiwan issue, immediately correct the wrong words and deeds, and play an active and constructive role in maintaining the political foundation of China-EU relations.
