02 September 2021 The Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio, will go, starting from Friday 3 September, on a mission to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Qatar and Pakistan. This was reported by the Farnesina in a note, specifying that the mission is part of the international initiatives undertaken by Italy to deal with the Afghan crisis and its consequences on the country's population.

In the contacts that Di Maio will have with the authorities of the neighboring countries of Afghanistan, the minister will address the most recent developments, also with a view to regional stability. Particular attention will be paid to the issue of Afghan refugees and displaced persons, with the aim of exploring solutions to facilitate, in collaboration with neighboring countries, humanitarian assistance for Afghan refugees in the countries of the region.

The stop in Qatar will allow to thank the local authorities for the fundamental assistance provided to Italy in the operations of relocation from Afghanistan, to deepen the political aspects of the new situation in Afghanistan and to confirm the common commitment in the fight against terrorism.
