More than half a million people in Hessen could receive a booster vaccination in the next few weeks to be better protected against the corona virus.

According to the decision of the Conference of Health Ministers, people who live in inpatient care facilities or in facilities for people with disabilities, as well as the very old who are older than 80 years, are entitled to the so-called booster booster vaccination.

"Vaccinations are carried out by the family doctors on site in cooperation with the facilities.

The mobile teams at the vaccination centers can also provide support, ”says Hessian Minister of Health Kai Klose (Die Grünen).

People with immunodeficiency, as well as those who have previously only received the vector vaccine from AstraZeneca or the single vaccine from Johnson & Johnson, should receive a booster, regardless of age.

Sufficient vaccine available

At the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians one looks at this task calmly. "We are talking about a completely different situation than at the beginning of the vaccination campaign," says a spokesman for the association. The logistics stand. In addition, sufficient vaccine is available. The booster vaccination is carried out with Moderna or BioNTech. Vaccination plans are being promoted nationwide, although the Standing Vaccination Commission has not yet issued a recommendation for booster vaccinations. "These vaccinations ensure that particularly vulnerable groups of people continue to have optimal vaccination protection," says Klose. In many nursing homes, the need for booster vaccinations for residents and staff has already been queried and passed on to the doctors in charge.

Even if hundreds of thousands of booster vaccinations are pending, the country is sticking to its plans to close the vaccination centers at the end of September. In Bad Homburg, the central vaccination center of the Hochtaunus district is being replaced by several smaller vaccination centers in the hospitals in Bad Homburg, Usingen and Königstein. In addition, the district's mobile vaccination teams will continue to be in action, they will do most of the injections from October onwards. The central vaccination center is open daily, including weekends, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until September 30th.

At the start of the school year, the Groß-Gerau district announced that it would significantly expand its vaccination range for young people from the age of twelve.

In addition to the state-wide requirements for school operations in Hesse, such as regular tests and mask compulsory, from Monday next week there will be the opportunity in selected educational institutions to be vaccinated as a precautionary measure to protect against a Covid 19 virus infection, said District Administrator Thomas Will (SPD).

The first corona vaccination campaigns should be in schools in Gernsheim, Mörfelden-Walldorf and Rüsselsheim.

Wiesbaden over incidence 100

In addition, the vaccination bus will also stop at different locations throughout the district by the end of September, which can also be used by schoolchildren for a first or second vaccination. When and where exactly can be seen on the Internet at

After Wiesbaden significantly exceeded the incidence value of 100 on Wednesday, new rules will come into force on Friday. The city is based on Frankfurt. Proof of vaccination, recovery or test evidence is required, among other things, before entering restaurants, bars and cafés, including for visiting sports and cultural venues. A negative proof is also required for private celebrations in rooms with more than 25 guests. A PCR test is required for access to brothels, dance halls, discos and clubs.

For larger events, a maximum of 200 people can meet outdoors and 100 indoors. People who have been vaccinated and who have recovered do not count. There are no restrictions for meetings in private rooms. An FFP2 mask requirement applies to staff in retirement and nursing homes who are not fully vaccinated or have recovered, as well as when visiting the hairdresser or in nail salons. Furthermore, there is a mask requirement in schools in face-to-face lessons (also at the seat), in shops, in public transport, and in a crowd.

1630 further confirmed corona infections were reported in Hesse within 24 hours. The incidence, i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days, rose significantly to 85.6. A week ago the value was 60.1. According to data from the register of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine on Wednesday, 93 people with Covid-19 disease were in the intensive care units of the Hessian hospitals. 37 of them had to be ventilated.
