An (Arab) man tried to illegally convert 75,000 dirhams into dollars away from official channels and approved authorities, hoping for an attractive dollar price. A handful of counterfeit dollars, and Dubai Police arrested one of the accused and referred him in his presence and the other in absentia to the Public Prosecution and from there to the Criminal Court, which sentenced them to one year in prison and a fine of 200,000 dirhams, in addition to the amount they seized from the victim.

The victim said in the Public Prosecution’s investigations that he saw, while browsing the “Instagram” application, an advertisement for buying and selling the dollar currency, so he contacted the advertiser and asked him if he was trading in the currency in the UAE, so he told him that he is outside the country, but he has friends inside it who can help him and provide any amount he wants Provide him with a person's number.

He added that he contacted that person and met him in one of the malls in Dubai, and he was accompanied by another person, and then agreed with them to exchange the amount of 75,000 dirhams for 30,000 dollars, which is a dollar price much lower than the legitimate trader in the exchange and banks, and they set an appointment for him to carry out the transaction.

He indicated that he went on time and met the first accused, behind a hotel in the Frij Al Murar area, and the accused climbed into the victim's car, and handed him a package of dollars wrapped in a plastic bag as 30 thousand dollars. The accused opened the door of the car and ran away, and the victim could not catch up with him.

For its part, the Dubai Police were able to identify the two suspects, who work as two security guards, and arrested one of them. He admitted in the police report and the Public Prosecution investigations that he had agreed with his colleague to defraud and deceive those wishing to exchange the currency, and his colleague published an advertisement with a picture of dollars and an attractive trading price, and they caught it. The victim then met him and took the money he had in exchange for a bundle of counterfeit dollars.

Appearing before the court, the accused retracted his statements and denied the accusations against him, claiming that he did not know that the dollars he had given to the victim were counterfeit. In addition to a fine of 200,000 dirhams, in addition to the amount seized from the victim.
