Good evening,

the roll calls are coming at ever shorter intervals. The German Red Cross and other organizations are calling for blood donations because supplies in hospitals are also running out in Hesse. Against this background, the LGBTIQ community asks again whether the restrictions for gays still make sense. At present, men who have sex with men - so-called "MSM" - are only allowed to donate blood if they have refrained from intercourse at least twelve months beforehand. These are the official guidelines of the German Medical Association and the Paul Ehrlich Institute. Our author Kilian Schroeder explores the question of whether the precautionary measure in response to the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s still makes sense, at least in this strict form. In politics, too, there are increasing voices to change the rules.

With an exhibition and a new memorial, Frankfurt commemorates Jewish children who were able to flee the city after 1938. Most of their parents did not survive the Holocaust. Frankfurt was a hub for this rescue operation, as Alexander Jürgs reports. For many children from southwest Germany, the flight into a new life began at the main train station. Most of them found refuge in Great Britain. But Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Sweden and the United States also took in children; some managed to escape to Palestine. The Israeli artist Yael Bartana has now created a memorial for them with the title “The Orphan Carousel”, the orphan carousel. It is built on Kaiserstrasse, at the transition from the banking district to the station district.

On Wednesday, Opel also presented its completely redesigned sales driver and the new boss in high gloss: The current version of the Astra rolled into the event hall, and Uwe Hochgeschurtz got out of the car.

Business editor Thorsten Winter was there for the Rhein-Main-Zeitung.

In addition, the state government has given up its plan to apply to host a “Specialized Expo” for the time being.

A “vision” for the Frankfurt / Rhine-Main metropolitan region was to be drawn up in it.

+++ the Frankfurt Book Fair has agreed with the health department to draw the limit of visitors per day at 25,000 +++ preparations for the booster vaccination are underway in Hessen.

Take care of yourself
