A 14-year-old teenager was taken care of by the firefighters on Sunday evening, around 7 p.m., after having plunged into the swimming pool of a campsite in Mornas (Vaucluse).

Originally from Bollène, the young man had been taken out unconscious from the water by the emergency services before being helicoptered in a very serious condition to the hospital of Timone, in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône).

He finally died on Monday as a result of this drowning, report our colleagues from Actu Vaucluse.

He jumped head first into a shallow pool

An investigation was opened and entrusted to the Orange gendarmes.

According to them, the death of the teenager would be accidental: he would have jumped head first into barely 1.10 meters of water.

According to France Bleu, 700 accidental drownings, including 168 fatal, were recorded between June and early August by Public Health France across the country.

Actu Vaucluse specifies that the Provence Alpes Côte-d'Azur region remains the most affected with 149 drownings including 23 deaths between June 1 and August 13.
