One reason for the poor condition of the road is that the road has been upgraded for decades from 40-50 tons gross weight to today's 60 tons gross weight without any reinforcements.

Torbjörn Lennelöv says that the road lasts during dry periods and winter but crumbles when it rains.

- It has passed its technical lifespan several years ago so it is simply over, says Torbjörn Lennelöv, senior project manager at the Swedish Transport Administration.

150 million refurbishment

Next summer, a major renovation will start to strengthen the road and be completed in the autumn of 2024. The cost?

SEK 150 million.

This means an increase in the gross weight from 60 tonnes to 74 tonnes.

Torbjörn Lennelöv says that it will be a real upgrade but unfortunately a little too late.

- The reason is a question of money and priorities.
