"The internal regulations of the pre-trial detention center allow prisoners to have religious objects in their cells, but, according to one of the prisoners, after a recent prosecutor's check, the icons were allowed to be kept in sight only during prayer, and then they are required to be put into a drawer," the human rights activist said, noting that this is not the only innovation in recent years.
In particular, the cells used to have small portable tables, but at the request of the prosecutor they were removed, arguing their actions by the need to avoid cluttering the premises.
For eating, there remained a table and a bench bolted to the floor.
However, according to Ivanov, the accused interviewed by members of the POC, in particular, the co-owner of the Summa group Ziyavuddin Magomedov, journalist Ivan Safronov, former deputy director of the Federal Penitentiary Service Valery Maksimenko say that these tables and benches are extremely inconvenient.
“You’ll sit for an hour or two, everything hurts,” the human rights activist quoted Maksimenko as saying.
Others stated that the benches were so short that it was impossible for two to fit on them.
But at the tables the arrested not only eat, but also write complaints, Ivanov recalled.
In addition to the tables, the Lefortovo prisoners have lost their magazines with images of women.
"The representative of the administration of the detention center explained that we are talking about magazines of erotic content, which are in the catalogs of the Russian Post and earlier it was possible to subscribe to them," the interlocutor of RT said.
Also, in the isolation ward, they began to make sure that the inmates did not sleep under the covers - it is forbidden to sleep on a disassembled bed until lights out.
“This is all pretty strange.
People do not sit in jail, but lie.
What is it if someone dozed off, who does it harm? "
- Maksimenko expressed bewilderment with the new orders.
Magomedov complained about "the lack of a constructive agenda on the part of the prosecutor - he is not interested in the fact that people under investigation are not taken to the gym here, but people are in prison for years."
At the same time, the administration of the detention center listened to the complaints of the prisoners and the opinion of the POC members, allowing the prisoners to take drinking water in plastic bottles for a walk.
Earlier, this ban was drawn to the attention of the prisoners of "Lefortovo" who had recovered from coronavirus and have a number of chronic diseases.
