The election programs have been printed, the parties' campaigns have started, the hot phase begins: in the coming weeks it will be decided which party will convince the voters most in the federal election on September 26, which coalition will rule the country in the future and who will soon be in the Federal Chancellery is seated.

Because Angela Merkel is leaving office after sixteen years, there will definitely be a new Chancellor.

So that you, dear readers, can form a comprehensive opinion before the election, the FAZ has launched a new format -

"Ask the candidates"

.

In this series of digital interviews, you have the opportunity to put the top candidates of the parties (the Greens briefly announced their federal chairman Robert Habeck instead of Annalena Baerbock as an interview partner) together with Reinhard Müller, senior editor in the FAZ's policy department.

In four events we ask the candidates questions about programs, demeanor and current developments, which you are welcome to submit in advance.

This Thursday, Christian Lindner, party leader and top candidate of the FDP, is a guest at our series of talks.

On Friday we will talk to Olaf Scholz, Federal Minister of Finance and top candidate of the SPD.
