In Guinea, the bottle of butane gas is cheaper from this Wednesday, September 1.

It is the result of negotiations between the State and five operators.

Objective stated: boost consumption to reduce the use of charcoal and wood cutting.

Until now, each operator fixed the price of its gas cylinders.

A relatively little used product in Guinea.

It is mainly consumed by a middle and urban class who can buy 12 kg bottles, to be connected to a stove.

From September 1, all over the country, it must be sold at the same price: 69,000 Guinean francs for the 6 kg bottle, 143,500 francs for the 12 kg bottle.

A drop of more than 40% compared to the average price charged so far.

A fixed and approved price.

Unfortunately, some people think that using gas is a luxury.

With this low price, we hope that as many people as possible will be able to access gas.

We think that with this approval, that will change considerably

, ”explains Wane Mariam Sanogo, director of Kama Gaz, and spokesperson for gas operators in Guinea.

A price resulting from a negotiation initiated by the authorities who want, they say, to make gas more accessible to reduce the cutting of wood used in cooking.

A goal applauded by Ousmane Keïta, president of the Union of Consumers of Guinea.

For us, it is extremely important that we encourage consumers to come to gas a little more so as not to go to charcoal and wood because that will have a negative impact on deforestation, etc.

 "

To obtain this reduction in the price of bottled gas and to bring the distributors into agreement, facilities and reductions in charges have been granted.

The price of butane gas is already regulated in several neighboring countries of Guinea, such as Mali or the Ivory Coast.
