A heavy downpour, which has discharged 77 liters of water per square meter in just half an hour,

has caused significant flooding in lowlands and streets in the Montsià and Baix Ebre regions

, in Tarragona, especially in the municipality of

Alcanar

, where for at the moment there are no personal injuries.

The storm, which until 1:00 p.m. has accumulated

167.8 liters of water per square meter in Alcanar

, has flooded streets and low areas in the area, where, according to images recorded by some neighbors and shared on social networks, it

has converted some avenues into rivers

that dragged vehicles, chairs, tables and urban furniture until they reached the sea.

Firefighters and emergency teams have sent several units to the area, where they have had to

help and care for some people affected by the floods

, although at the moment there is no evidence of significant personal damage.

Civil Protection of the Generalitat has asked the citizens of the affected areas

to avoid mobility

, both on foot and by vehicle, to go up to the upper floors of their buildings and to avoid going down to the car parks.

The Minister of the Interior, Joan Ignasi Elena,

who this afternoon presides over an extraordinary meeting of the technical committee of the Inuncat flood plan

due to the heavy rains, has asked that mobility be avoided in Montsià and Baix Ebre in the next few hours due to the intensity of rainfall.

As reported by the Fire Brigade,

until just before 2:30 p.m., the 112 emergency telephone number has received about 300 notices due to flooding

on the ground floor and in the streets, especially in Alcanar (249), but also in towns such as Sant Carles de la Ràpita (33), Ulldecona (17), Amposta (6) and Deltebre (2).

Torrential rains have also forced to cut the N-340, between Amposta and Alcanar;

the AP-7, in Ulldecona towards Tarragona, and the local road TP-3318 in Ulldecona,

as well as the railway circulation of the R-16 commuter line between l'Aldea and Tortosa.

In addition, the rainfall has left 10,000 users in the area without electricity supply, although the impact has been reduced shortly

after to 5,500 subscribers, according to Civil Protection.

Civil Protection of the Generalitat has raised the alert level of the Inuncat plan due to the intensity of the rains in Montsià and Baix Ebre and the incidents of flooding

and has recommended not to park in streams or floodplains

, to move away from these areas, not go through flooded areas or underpasses, do not go to garages or areas where water accumulates and avoid driving on roads and secondary roads near rivers and streams.

Overflowing Vinarós

The Triator de Vinaròs ravine has overflowed as

a result of the heavy rains in recent hours

, according to the mayor, Guillem Alsina, informed EFE.

The emergency teams continue working from 12 noon in Vinaròs to rescue all the people trapped in their homes and in cars after the floods that began to occur this afternoon between the south of Tarragona and the north of Castellón.

"At the moment we do not have to regret personal injuries,"

celebrates the mayor, although he adds that "there is a lot of material damage."

At this time, up to seven teams from the Castellón Provincial Firefighters Consortium - together with three forestry brigades, a machinery and logistics unit of the consortium and three command units - collaborate with the Civil Guard and the Local Police to rescue

"some people who are they have been trapped in their houses and others in their cars. "

Dry clothes and blankets

Alsina explains that so far it has already been possible to rescue several people who had been trapped in their vehicles on the N-238 by helicopter.

"These people are now being cared for by the Red Cross, which has offered them

dry clothes and blankets," he

adds.

The consortium has also rescued other drivers trapped in the municipality of Rosell.

The mayor of Vinaròs confirms that an aquatic rescue unit (URA) has also had to be mobilized to verify

that there were no occupants in two cars that have been dragged by the waterspout to the sea.

At the moment the Emergency Coordination Center maintains the Emergency to Situation 1 due to floods in Vinaròs.
