President Moon Jae-in said, "We welcome the ruling and opposition parties to have time to mature for further review of the amendment to the Media Arbitration Act at the National Assembly."

"President Moon said that 'freedom of the press is a pillar of democracy and should be specially protected along with the people's right to know,'" Blue House spokeswoman Park Kyung-mi said in a briefing today (31st).

"Therefore, related laws and systems should be carefully reviewed to ensure that there is no fear of abuse," he added.

However, President Moon also pointed out the need for the media to wake up, saying, "The protection of victims from malicious false reports or fake news is also very important."

President Moon said, "We must promptly correct false reports and make a complete recovery from psychological, material, and social damage.

President Moon emphasized, "Since freedom of the press and protection of victims are both important, we hope that we will not miss this opportunity and that a national consensus will be established through social communication and open consultation."
