"The US military did not leave dogs in cages at Hamid Karzai International Airport, including reported military service dogs," US Department of Defense spokesman John Kirby tweeted.

The photographs, which circulated on the Internet, depict "the animals of the Kabul Small Animal Rescue organization," he noted.

The fact that the US military is allegedly leaving dogs in Kabul was previously reported by the non-profit organization American Humane.

The American government is pulling out of #Kabul and leaving behind brave US military contract working dogs to be tortured and killed at the hand of our enemies.
