The mayor of Metz was referred to the criminal court of Epinal by the chamber of instruction of Nancy.

François Grosdidier (LR) will have to answer for "illegal taking of interests" and "embezzlement of public funds" in the context of a case that began in February 2013. At that time, Philippe Mousnier, former political opponent of François Grosdidier files a complaint against the then elected official.

He accuses the latter of having used twice in 2009 and in 2011 funds from his parliamentary reserve to subsidize the association Valeur Écologie, of which he was the president.

In 2016, an investigating judge issued a dismissal order, confirmed on appeal in June 2017, by the Metz investigating chamber.

But Anticor then lodged an appeal in cassation.

The Court of Cassation then overturned the dismissal in June 2018 and referred this case to the investigating chamber of Nancy.

François Grosdidier was then indicted in February 2021.

Already sentenced for "embezzlement of public property"

"The problem is that he gave money to an association that he led, it is an unacceptable situation," said Elise Van Beneden, president of the anti-corruption association Anticor, civil party. "We formally dispute these incriminations and we wonder about the advisability of an appeal in cassation", announced Me Alain Behr, lawyer of François Grosdidier. "We wonder about the advisability of an appeal in cassation", he added. For his part, the mayor of Metz says he is "serene" and refers to "revenge" and a "political settling of accounts".

François Grosdidier was elected mayor of Metz in 2020. He had previously been mayor of the neighboring town of Woippy, from 2001 to 2017, and deputy for the 1st district of Moselle, from 1993 to 2011. While he was senator-mayor UMP of Woippy, François Grosdidier has already been sentenced in 2015 for “embezzlement of public property” for having used a company vehicle from his town hall to travel frequently to Paris.
