It was in July 2020 that the news of the tragic accident came.

A family with children on a bicycle ride had been hit by a car and two of them, the mother and the teenage son, were dead.

The father and a younger child survived with minor injuries.

Witnesses to the accident have stated that the man drove more than 60 kilometers per hour on a narrow 30-lane road, and that he was also close to driving on more people.

The suspect is already unpunished and relatively quickly the police were able to establish that he had neither alcohol nor other drugs in his body at the time of the accident.

A minor mental examination of the man showed, however, that he may have suffered from a mental disorder at the time of the accident.

Information about physical illness

During the investigation, the man's defense has submitted information that the accident was instead due to the man suffering from a physical illness, but prosecutor Kjell Jannesson has previously said that he does not believe the information makes any difference in the debt issue.

- No I do not think so.

We did some direct medical examinations of the suspect and there was nothing then that indicated what the defense now claims, he then told SVT Nyheter Småland.

The preliminary investigation against the suspect was supposed to have been completed before Christmas 2020, but has now been ongoing for over a year.

Kjell Jannesson does not want to provide any further information about the indictment before it becomes public on Tuesday.
