As the Russian Foreign Ministry recalled, on August 30, the Security Council adopted Resolution 2593. It was prepared by the Western "troika" (USA, Great Britain, France).

"Russia has made a significant contribution to making the document look as balanced as possible, so that it meets the urgent tasks of the Afghan settlement," said the official representative of the ministry, Maria Zakharova.

At the same time, in the end, during the voting on the text, Russia and China were forced to abstain.

The document took into account "some of the concerns" of the Russian side, she noted, but most of the proposals remained ignored.

In particular, the authors of the resolution refused to include a reference to ISIS * in the paragraph on combating terrorism, the report says.

On August 30, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution on the situation in Afghanistan, calling on members of the radical Taliban movement ** to ensure the safety of the departure of the country's citizens.

The document was supported by 13 states, Russia and China abstained.

Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya noted that Russia abstained because the authors of the draft ignored the country's “fundamental concerns”.
