US President Joe Biden said he was responsible for the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, praising his country's efforts in establishing the air bridge that allowed more than 120,000 to leave.

Biden added - in a speech from the White House, a day after the last US military plane left Kabul Airport - "I have made a decision to end the war in Afghanistan," noting that he does not believe that the security and safety of the United States can be enhanced by deploying thousands of troops in Afghanistan.

He stressed that he refuses to continue a war that "does not serve the interests of the American people," and that the United States has not been at peace since the war in Afghanistan began 20 years ago, calling on his country to learn lessons from that experience.

The US president made it clear that the war in Afghanistan cost his country about $300 million a day over two decades.

'Exceptional success'

Biden described the American airlift, which allowed the evacuation of more than 120,000 people from Afghanistan, as an "exceptional success," and said, "We have accomplished one of the largest air bridges in history," adding, "No country has ever accomplished anything like it, only the United States has the potential and the will." And the ability to do that."

Biden saw that when he took office, the Taliban was in its strongest military position since 2001, referring to the responsibility of the previous administration to reach an agreement with the movement and the increase in its strength, he said.

He pointed out that the Taliban had made pledges to secure safe passage for anyone who wanted to leave Afghanistan, stressing his commitment to get all Americans out of Afghanistan if they wanted to, and said that Washington would not take the Taliban's words but rather their actions.

He explained that about 200 Americans are still in Afghanistan, and some of them want to leave.

At the same time, Biden threatened ISIS, saying, "We will continue the fight against terrorism in Afghanistan and other countries," adding, "To ISIS-Khorasan Province: We are not done with you yet."
