The trial operation with a fast track in the legal chain for so-called mass crimes has been ongoing since the turn of the year.

It has previously been tried in Stockholm.

- So far this year, there are more than a thousand cases that have been decided in Gothenburg District Court, says chamber prosecutor Karin Andersson, who works with the project at the prosecutor's chamber.

Cooperation

The prerequisite for the fast track is a collaboration between the police, prosecutors, courts, the National Board of Forensic Medicine and the prison service.

The method can be used for crimes that result in a maximum of three years' imprisonment and where the suspect is over 18 and is found at the crime scene.

Already there, the police in principle complete the investigation.

Quick response

- "Faster prosecution" means a quick response from society when a crime is committed.

It can also be nice for the suspect to avoid living in uncertainty for a long time, says Karin Andersson.

Overall, the results have been very good.

At the turn of next year, an expansion to both Skaraborg and Älvsborg is planned.

The plan is to make the trial operation permanent within a couple of years.
