The businessman and former Tunisian presidential candidate, Nabil Karoui, was arrested Sunday, August 29 in Algeria, according to several Tunisian media.

He would be accused of having entered the territory illegally.

According to the Tunisian national television channel and RadioMosaiqueFM, he was in the town of Tébessa, on the border between the two countries, with his brother, Ghazi Karoui when he was arrested.

The two men are due to appear before a judge on Monday before being escorted back to the border.

Owner of the Tunisian channel Nessma and president of the Qalb Tounes party, Nabil Karoui was released on June 15 after six months in detention in Tunisia for a case of money laundering and tax evasion.

He had not appeared in public since President Kaïs Saïed's coup in July, when the latter decided to suspend Parliament and dismiss Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi.
