For the autumn crayfish hunters, the season started with strong winds in a barren Lake Vättern.

Fisheries supervisor Michael Bergström at the County Administrative Board in Jönköping, monitored the general crayfish fishery.

According to him, people's seaworthiness can be improved.

─ Some have good equipment when it comes to fishing but not when it comes to life jackets, says Michael Bergström.

He points out how important it is to find out about the weather and wind when fishing out on large lakes such as Lake Vättern.

People call me and ask if they should go out in the storm or not ─ I do not want to be the basis for amateurs to end up in distress at sea.

Fishing gear disappeared without a trace

Together with Västra Götaland County Administrative Board, 80 inspections of fishermen's gear and catch were carried out, without any "steady incidents", Michael Bergström mentions.

─ But we did receive a report on missing fishing gear.

Whether it has to do with theft or that they were blown away in the storm is not yet known.

As expected, the strong winds contributed to fewer fishermen getting out.

The next opportunity for crayfish fishing for the public will take place on 3 September at

Something for the crayfish fishermen to think about next weekend?
