  Central Command spokesperson Bill Urban said in a statement that U.S. drones carried out an air strike on a car in Kabul that day, lifting the threat of the Afghan branch of the "Islamic State" against Kabul airport.

The statement said that the U.S. military was convinced that it hit the target, and the car was hit by a huge secondary explosion indicating that it contained a large amount of explosives.
