New measures, new reports and highlights: an update on the latest developments in the Covid-19 pandemic around the world.

- New Moderna vaccine lots suspended in Japan -

The Okinawa region in Japan suspended the use of the Moderna vaccine against Covid-19 on Sunday after the discovery of new contaminated batches, local authorities said.

This decision comes the day after the opening of an investigation by the Japanese Ministry of Health after the death of two men in their thirties who received Moderna vaccines from 1.63 million doses which had impurities in some vials.

- Melbourne's confinement extended -

The containment of Melbourne, Australia's second-largest city, will be extended, authorities said on Sunday facing an increase in new cases linked to the Delta variant.

In place for a month, this confinement, which concerns the seven million inhabitants of Melbourne and the state of Victoria where it is located, was to be lifted on September 2.

This is the sixth confinement of the city since the start of the pandemic.

It comes with a curfew and a limited number of exit permits.

- Curfew in Kosovo -

The Kosovo government decided on Sunday to introduce a 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew from Monday and to postpone the start of the school year.

Public gatherings, festivals, concerts, weddings and other celebrations are also prohibited.

Kosovo, a country of 1.8 million inhabitants, has recorded around 140,000 cases of the coronavirus since the start of the epidemic and deplores some 2,500 deaths.

A quarter of the population has been vaccinated.

- Lots of recipes in Vegas in July -

A year after the famous Strip was closed due to the pandemic, Las Vegas casinos broke records this summer, despite the obligation to wear the mask in closed places.

Nevada recorded $ 1.36 billion in gaming revenue in July, a historic level enabled by the influx of visitors to Las Vegas after months of lockdown and deprivation.

A large portion of customers come from Texas, Florida and the Midwestern region, according to employees.

- More than 4.49 million dead -

The Covid-19 pandemic has killed more than 4,492,854 worldwide since the end of December 2019, according to a report drawn up on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. GMT by AFP from official sources.

The United States is the most bereaved country with 637,237 dead, ahead of Brazil (579,010), India (437,830), Mexico (257,906) and Peru (198,167).

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates, taking into account the excess mortality directly and indirectly linked to Covid-19, that the toll of the pandemic could be two to three times higher than that calculated from the figures officials.
