Treasures of Abantos Route

Sierra de Guadarrama.

This path, which starts and ends at the Eurofórum Felipe II car park in San Lorenzo de El Escorial and whose midpoint is the Luis Ceballos Arboretum and its environmental education center -which has the largest collection of trees and shrubs in the Iberian Peninsula- , takes the hiker through a place where they can enjoy the natural and historical-cultural wealth of Mount Abantos. Along the way, beech, cedars, firs, centenary pines, junipers, maples and frescoes are intertwined with the constructions that were built to collect the waters of the Arca del Helechal, Colmenas or Las Chorreras stream, which supply the Casita of the Infante. Footprints, all of them, that were put up on the occasion of the construction of the well-known monastery and the consequent royal presence in the municipality since the time of Felipe II. The recreational area of ​​the port of Canencia is the starting point of this route, which takes us to the viewpoint of La Chorrera de Mojonavalle.

The first part of the route runs along a forest track flanked by a dense pine forest and, later on, we can appreciate an area surrounded by Douglas firs, a species introduced into the environment.

After passing the old environmental education center, the Chorrera de Monojavalle viewpoint appears on the way, a place of singular beauty in which an aspen stands out, under whose shade you can make a stop along the way.

During the route, you can also see, in addition to centenary pines, holly trees and some of the few birch trees in Madrid.

Route The Battle of Water

This circular route, a kind of journey through history that transports us to the fight for water that took place during the Civil War, part of Paredes de Buitrago. On the route, included in the Plan of Visitable Sites of the Community of Madrid, the fortified area of ​​the so-called Water Front stands out, the strategic point through which both sides fought, since it allowed access to two of the main reservoirs that supplied then to the capital: Puentes Viejas and El Villar. The route, which has a high landscape value, houses the highest concentration of war infrastructures on both sides conserved in the region. Thus, during the itinerary, in addition to enjoying nature, the hiker can observe several restored and marked vestiges of the battle, such as machine gun nests, bunkers,trenches and command posts.

Stage 4: from Robledillo de la Jara to Cervera de Buitrago

La del Genaro is a long-distance route, over 70 km long, which runs around the Atazar reservoir, the largest in the region. Therefore, it is divided into seven stages. In these lines we propose a walk through the fourth section, which goes from Robledillo de la Jara to Cervera de Buitrago, which is not very long and has little unevenness. In addition, this tour can be done by bicycle or on horseback (this service is provided in the surrounding towns). On the path, of interest are the hydraulic constructions related to the reservoir, the livestock routes or the different plant formations, such as the resin pine forests, jarales, gall oaks, holm oaks or the fluvial groves, as well as the geological phenomena that appear in the path: faults, singular rocks such as slates, granites or quartzites. In fact,the Lozoya river crossing is done by jumping between large granite blocks.

Sierra del Rincón Biosphere Reserve.

This route starts from La Hiruela, which runs through a landscape

decorated

with mills at the foot of the Jarama River. The path, included within the Sierra del Rincón Biosphere Reserve (which includes the towns of Horcajuelo de la Sierra, Montejo de la Sierra, Prádena del Rincón, Puebla de la Sierra and La Hiruela) stands out for its rich landscape and, in its first kilometers, it flows along the old road that communicated La Hiruela with El Cardoso (Guadalajara), in addition to coinciding with a long-distance path, the GR-88. In the area, in which large centenary oaks abound, you can see the ruins of the Juan Bravo Mill, the La Hiruela flour mill (where there is a recreational area next to the Jarama river), a traditional apiary and also the ruins of the hermitage of San Roque.

Duration: 55 minutes.

Length: 3.3 km.

This path runs around the perimeter of the Los Morales reservoir (Rozas de Puerto Real) and its route, which starts in the parking lot of the dam, is highly recommended for families with children, since it has a slight slope, the path is wide and has with great views of wooded areas.

The great attraction of this enclave, which is protected as a Special Area for the Conservation of the Alberche and Cofio River Basins, is El Castañar de Rozas de Puerto Real, which extends to the west of the route towards the mountain that crowns the Alto del Blackbird (at an altitude of 1,768 meters).

Once the chestnut grove is left behind, the rest of the road is dotted with areas of grassland with scattered vegetation of ash trees and rebollos.
