The murder of the Kassel District President Walter Lübcke (CDU) shocked.

The left-wing politician Janine Wissler receives threatening letters with the sender "NSU 2.0".

There is frequent violence and agitation against politicians.

Local politicians are also often affected.

From the beginning of 2016 to the end of 2019, 246 such crimes against persons, facilities, buildings or vehicles by such politicians were registered in Hesse.

200 of these were directed against people, according to a response from the Interior Ministry to a small request from the AfD.

Politicians from the CDU and the AfD were particularly affected.

Focus on hate postings

The data basis are the numbers of politically motivated crime reported to the Hessian State Criminal Police Office.

However, during this period only statements could be made about politicians in general.

Threats and crimes against local politicians have only been recorded in a more targeted manner in Hessen since the beginning of the year.

Likewise, after the murder of Lübcke in 2019, a large number of new guidelines against hate postings were started with the action program “Hessen against Hetze”.

According to the Interior Ministry, exactly 73 suspects had been identified after criminal offenses against politicians by the end of 2019.

148 Investigations were discontinued, among other things, because no suspects could be identified.

According to a previous small request from the AfD, there were nine convictions as of November 2019.

The Kassel district president was shot on the terrace of his house in June 2019. The Frankfurt Higher Regional Court sentenced a right-wing extremist to life imprisonment for murder at the end of January. The court saw it as proven that the German had killed the CDU politician for right-wing extremist motives.
