The United States has launched immediate retaliation against the Islamic State (IS) militant group that carried out terrorist attacks at the Kabul airport in Afghanistan, as President Joe Biden had promised.

It was implemented within 48 hours after a suicide bombing near the airport on the 26th (local time) killed 1,300 people, including 13 Americans.

Earlier, President Biden held a press conference shortly after the attack and said he had ordered a plan to attack ISIS, saying that the perpetrators would pay the price.

The U.S. Department of Defense said on the 27th that a drone (unmanned aerial vehicle) attacked the Islamic State Khorasan (IS-K), an Afghan branch of ISIS, and killed one member, the Associated Press reported.

This swift retaliation by the United States appears to have been an attempt to demonstrate a firm stance not to condone a terrorist attack.

In addition, by removing the IS members hiding in the outskirts of Afghanistan with an unmanned drone, it also has the meaning of showing off internally and externally that the information network is still in Afghanistan.

There is also a concern that if 'punishment' is not taken as another terrorist threat still exists by the 31st, the deadline for the US withdrawal, further provocations may disrupt evacuation in the future.

The US embassy in Afghanistan also advised its citizens to leave immediately near the exits of Kabul Airport.

At the same time, it is highly probable that the US withdrawal from Afghanistan has lowered the status of the United States and deteriorated President Biden's political position.

Afghanistan, who had applied for 20 years, was handed over to the Taliban in one day, and many American casualties occurred.

The Biden administration is protesting that the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan was decided by the Donald Trump administration, but it is also pointed out that it is merely an evasion of responsibility as it has repeatedly overturned the policies of the previous administration after taking office.

For this reason, it can be interpreted that the evacuation was carried out as planned, but the United States was trying to show a strong image of the United States against the terrorists by executing a retaliatory attack somehow.

In fact, the Ministry of National Defense did not disclose whether the Islamic State fighters removed in retaliatory airstrikes were the mastermind behind planning future terrorist attacks, but whether they were directly related to the Kabul airport attack.
