Emmanuel Macron will be the guest on Sunday evening on TF1's television news, on the sidelines of his trip to Iraq, to discuss "the situation in Afghanistan and in the region," the channel announced in a statement on Saturday.

The meeting with the Head of State will take place from Erbil, the capital of the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan.

Mr. Macron is currently in Iraq for a regional summit where the Afghan crisis and the fight against ISIS take center stage.

The president made a speech on the situation in Afghanistan on August 16, the day after the capture of Kabul by the Taliban.

Since then, France has carried out two weeks of evacuation operations, completed on Friday evening.

In total, nearly 3,000 people, including 2,600 Afghans, have been sheltered, according to Defense Minister Florence Parly.

With the approach of the final withdrawal on August 31 of the American forces, which secure the Kabul airport, several countries have already announced that they have ended their operations, like the United Kingdom on Saturday.

At the same time, a French delegation met representatives of the Taliban in Doha on Thursday for the first time since they took power on August 15.

These discussions focused on the situation at Kabul airport and the evacuation operations, according to the two parties.
