At the Grimme TV Awards ceremony on Friday evening in Marl, the audience was silent for ten seconds out of respect for the Afghan people. The 140 or so award winners and other guests at Theater Marl followed a spontaneous request from WDR television journalist Isabel Schayani in her acceptance speech after receiving a Grimme Prize. This people has been experiencing a war for 43 years, said Shayani. Entire generations grew up "in this damned war". The journalist appealed not to lose interest in the fate of the Afghan people in two or three months. Schayani had previously received a Grimme Prize for competent and empathic reporting from the Moria refugee camp.

Since Friday, Carolin Kebekus, Caren Miosga and Charly Hübner have another thing in common besides the first letter: They too are fresh Grimme Prize winners.

A total of 16 productions and actors received the renowned award for good television.

14 went to public broadcasters alone.

There was also an audience award and a special award for the presenter of the day's themes, Carmen Miosga.

The winners were announced in May.

The undoped Grimme Prize was awarded for the 57th time.
