The Technical Scientific Committee (CTS), which met today, gave a positive opinion to the proposal to extend the expiry date of the Green pass from 9 to 12 months. On the basis of the ISS monitoring data, meanwhile, the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, has signed a new ordinance that sends Sicily to the yellow zone: "I have just signed a new ordinance that brings Sicily to the yellow zone. It is the confirmation that the virus is not yet defeated and that the priority is to continue investing in the vaccination campaign and in the prudent and correct behavior of each of us ".

The weekly monitoring of the ISS

In the period 5-17 August 2021, the average Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was equal to 1.01 (range 0.93-1.12), a decrease compared to the previous week, coinciding with the epidemic threshold. A slight decrease is also observed in the transmissibility index based on cases with hospitalization, which however does not fall below the epidemic threshold. This is what we read in the draft of the weekly monitoring of the ISS.

There are 10 Regions / PPAA that are classified at moderate risk. The remaining 11 Regions are classified as low risk. These are Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Liguria, Piedmont, Pa Trento, Puglia, Sicily, Valle d'Aosta.

The circulation of the delta variant is now largely prevalent in Italy. This variant is dominant in the European Union and is associated with an increase in the number of new cases of infection also in other countries with high vaccination coverage.

A higher vaccination coverage and the completion of vaccination cycles represent the main tools to prevent further recurrences of episodes of increased circulation of the virus supported by emerging variants with greater transmissibility. The Higher Institute of Health explains again.

Therefore "it is advisable to carry out a capillary tracing and containment of cases, to maintain high attention and to apply and respect measures and behaviors to limit the further increase in viral circulation".

Sicily is the only Italian region at moderate risk but "with a high probability of progression".

No Region / PA exceeds the critical occupancy threshold for ICU or medical area beds. The employment rate in intensive care is increasing to 5.7% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health), with the number of people hospitalized increasing from 423 (17/08/2021) to 504 (24/08/2021). The employment rate in medical areas nationwide increases to 7.1%. The number of people hospitalized in these areas is increasing from 3,472 (17/08/2021) to 4036 (24/08/2021).

The incidence of covid in Italy rises to 77 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants. The data refers to the period 20-26 August. In the previous week, the incidence was 74. This is what we always read in the weekly monitoring of the ISS. The quota identified as a threshold not to be exceeded in order to be able to keep track of cases is 50 per 100 thousand inhabitants.
