Despite the ban on numerous demonstrations against the Corona policy, the Berlin police are preparing for a major operation this weekend.

Support from other federal states was requested.

"Experience has shown that a large number of people go into the city and do not follow the ban," said a police spokesman.

“The police will enforce the ban on assemblies, be present accordingly and, in particular, protect the government district.” A total of more than 4200 police officers are said to be on duty.

13 demonstrations were initially banned, including rallies by the “Initiative lateral thinking” on the Strasse des 17. Juni.

Four urgent motions against the bans had been submitted to the court on Friday afternoon.

Two demos are allowed to take place

The administrative court granted an urgent application and overturned the ban on a gathering with 500 expected participants on Saturday and Sunday.

In the other three cases, the bans were confirmed.

The police are also particularly attentive because a year ago, on August 29, 2020, tens of thousands of people protested against the corona restrictions in Berlin.

Demonstrators broke through a barrier at the Reichstag building and briefly occupied a staircase in front of an entrance.

The pictures of it caused outrage among top politicians.

Since then, however, the number of people attending these demonstrations has fallen sharply.
