- If you look at the table last year and this year, we are ahead, Sandviken's midfielder Niclas Håkansson states with satisfaction.

And a look at the tables for division one shows that it is now the traditional Sandvikens IF which is number one in both the men's and women's side in the county.

In both cases, an advancement to the country's second highest series is within reach.

And if one of the Sandviken teams succeeds, it would mean that Gävleborg will once again place itself at what is considered the elite level in football.

This is what the road to the elite looks like

The men are currently in second place in the northern division one series, which means qualifying place for the Superettan.

To get to first place, which means direct advancement, Sandviken needs to take in six points on series-leading Brommapojkarna.

For the ladies, the road to the elite is a little longer because they have to get past Gamla Upsala, which is three points ahead, and then handle a qualifier to advance.

Advancement would mean a lot

And taking the step to the superettan or elitettan would mean a lot to the association.

- It provides completely different opportunities to expand the association, with the financial resources it entails, says Niclas Larsson from the club's sports group.
